With the addition of four new team members, the golf team completed its first varsity season in the Shore Conference. Throughout their second official year as a team, the 13 golfers improved their performance to earn their first win in program history.

While practicing at Twin Brooks Driving Range and Trump National Golf Course, the girls focused on their individual skills to further their development. The team’s home course is Navesink Country Club.

Despite a challenging start to the season facing tough competition like Holmdel and Rumson-Fair Haven, the team has made significant improvements. By the end of the season, the matches were tight, losing by only 10 to 15 strokes, compared to a difference of 30 strokes against Peddie and Holmdel in their first few matches. Each member finished the season with a lower stroke average with junior Colleen Egan has maintaining the best average. As a result of their progress and determination, the golf team celebrated a one-stroke win over Saint John Vianney, the first for the team, and finished the season with a 1-9 record.

Head coach Bernie Kosinski is impressed with the progress the golfers have made and the growth they have shown since March. “Although the start of our season was tough to get the momentum going since our first match was the day after spring break, the team has come a long way,” Kosinski said.

The golfers’ consistent battle with more experienced teams showcases the focus and excitement they have for next year. With the experience they have gained this season, the team hopes to win more matches next year as they will have six seniors and new freshmen coming in. “Although we are still in the developing stages, we are definitely flourishing as a team,” junior Jackie Fletcher said.
