Fathers and daughters of Trinity Hall came together on Sept. 17 to enjoy some friendly cornhole competition. Hosted by the Fathers’ Committee and organized by the Athletics Council, the event was the first of its kind, a project devised by the committee to engage dad-daughter duos while keeping safe in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students and their fathers, while following the necessary safety precautions, competed against other teams throughout various rounds of play, with the winning team moving one step closer to the championship and the losing team being eliminated. Those eliminated were able to enjoy lunch, sponsored by Jimmy Pecci’s Taste of Italy, while listening to a music arrangement organized by DJ Gabby Sorrentino, a senior affectionately nicknamed “Gabby the Great.”

After a long day of food and fun, all dads and daughters gathered around the last two teams left standing awaiting the ultimate Trinity Hall Cornhole Champions. Though junior Noelle Turek and father Jeffery Turek put up an amazing fight, freshman Macy Swanton and her dad Jeff Swanton came out on top to win the first Cornhole Tournament.

The Fathers’ Committee is looking forward to making the cornhole event an annual afternoon of father-daughter bonding in the future. “The beautiful weather made for such a nice day of bonding with my dad!” junior Emily Minkler said.
