Each year, the Super Bowl is one of the most-watched events on TV. Millions of viewers tune in with friends and family to cheer on their favorite teams and to watch the infamous commercials and of course the halftime shows. Families enjoy their favorite food and place bets on who will win the big game.

In the days leading up to the Super Bowl this year, excitement was bursting through the halls, given the excitement, Trinity Hall students began to discuss whether or not they should have school the following Monday.

An argument students proposed is that other private schools had off, so in turn, Trinity Hall should follow suit and also give students and faculty off.

Lily Wood ‘25 said, “We are one of the only private schools in the area that doesn’t have off the Monday after the Super Bowl. I think we shouldn’t have school that day like [other local schools].”

Other students believe that at an academically rigorous school like Trinity Hall, it is certain that they will have homework due on Monday that they will not have time to complete due to Super Bowl gatherings and festivities, as it is a time families come together. This circumstance would make it difficult for students to balance completing their homework and their festivities, as well as other obligations. With consideration of this conflict, community members are proposing the idea that school should be canceled on “Super Bowl Monday” to give students time to submit quality work and enjoy time with loved ones.

Bridget Kennedy ‘25 said, “I think that it would be really nice to be able to watch the game with friends and family and not have to worry about submitting homework until Tuesday.”

Additionally, some students proposed a compromise: A delayed opening following Super Bowl Sunday.

Nan Sperber ‘24 said, “The Super Bowl always ends very late, and I don’t want to be tired and sluggish the next day at school. I think that if we could meet halfway and have a delayed opening the day after the Super Bowl, my learning would be enhanced rather than impeded because I could sleep in.”

The Super Bowl is a special event that occurs each year, that both students and faculty enjoy watching it with friends and family. For some, Super Bowl Sunday is a holiday in itself! School should be canceled the day after the Super Bowl because students should be given the opportunity to watch the game with their loved ones without the stress of completing assignments and not getting a sufficient amount of sleep. Additionally, other schools in Monmouth County are closed the day after the Super Bowl, which further supports this argument.
